After somehow surviving my teens intact, I developed bad skin in my twenties. With each breakout, my self-esteem plummeted and I cursed my bad luck. Anyone who has had acne can relate to those feelings of inadequacy and self-consciousness and it took until my thirties for me to finally be comfortable in my own skin.
Looking back it was a combination of poor diet, partying too hard and lack of understanding about decent skincare that led me to develop adult acne. Discovering natural products such as Dr Hauschka was a revelation and I soon became hooked on the gentle range.
Following in the footsteps of the Dr Hauschkas of the world, Irish brand Bia Beauty is relatively new to the natural skincare scene. Developed by boffin Tracey Ryan, Bia (meaning food) uses nut and seed oils, fruits, herbs, spices, cocoa and avocado butter in its products to ‘feed skin’. I’m a huge believer in feeding your skin inside and out so I had to pick up a pot!
As I’m nutty about anything with orange or neroli, I chose the Orange & Grapefruit Facial Exfoliant Cleanser. Blended with shea butter, orange blossom and grapefruit, this little pot of luxury smells heavenly.
Although it is in itself a cleanser, I like to smear a generous helping of it on after I’ve removed my make-up and leave for a few minutes as a mini facemask. The tiny jojoba grains act as a very gentle exfoliant and after rinsing off, my face feels soft and beautifully cleansed.
I’m really enjoying this offering from Bia Beauty (and so is my husband I’ve discovered – will have to hide the pot now) and am looking forward to trying more from the range.
