Getting ready for the Image Magazine Blog Awards

by ,

We’re very excited here at TBI Towers. Not only are we up for an award at the Image Magazine Blog Awards, but myself and Mr TBI have secured a babysitter and are going out! Whoop!

So in honour of our night on the tiles in dirty old Dublin, I thought I’d take a departure from my usual blog posts and share a few thoughts on my six months blogging, plus a quick look at what I’ll be wearing tonight (sticky toddler handprints permitting).

As a blogging newbie, I was genuinely chuffed to make the shortlist for the awards and am among some of the best in Irish beauty blogging. I’m a long-time fan of the bloggers I’ve been short-listed alongside (LovelyGirlieBits, FluffAndFripperies, MakeUpMonster, NurseFancyPants, FlailsAndNails).

I’d been thinking about writing a beauty blog for years as an outlet for my product obsession but sometimes work, life and babies get in the way! It wasn’t until the end of March this year when we finally got going.

I really had no idea how much work goes into blogging. Aside from keeping up with all the social media, learning to photograph and edit the posts has been a steep learning curve and I’m still getting to grips with my Canon camera and Photoshop. Meanwhile, Mr TBI takes care of all the IT issues – it’s like having another child together!

Tonight’s blog awards take place in Fade Street Social – a funky Dublin bar and restaurant (I say this despite the fact I’ve never set foot in the place). So what am I wearing out? I was tempted to go all out on a fancy dress but I’ve decided to keep it a bit more low-key. My leather skirt is new season Zara while my Hamburglar-inspired stripy crop top is from Mango. Finally I’ll accessorise with a simple pair of black Zara heels from 2013 and a bright red and pink clutch for a pop of colour.

I plan on keeping my hair simple, with a soft smoked eye and instead play up my lips with either my beloved Mac Ruby Woo or my new Charlotte Tilbury lippy in Velvet Underground.

And so to quote 90s movie Wayne’s World, party on Garth!

Have your say
