Blondie-inspired YSL red lips

by ,

There are a million reasons to wear make-up – for confidence, to cover flaws, to enhance features or all of the above. Me? I’ve been obsessed with make-up since my early teens as it helped turn the dorky, bookworm me into a reasonably attractive young one. Admittedly I was never ‘cool’ but at least from a distance, with the right lipstick, I could look it.

One star who epitomised cool when I was growing up was Blondie, aka Debbie Harry. The American punk star made tousled hair and red lips her own and I loved her. So today I wanted to play at being ‘cool’ and channel a little Blondie with this divine YSL Rouge Pur Couture red lipstick in No 14.

To say this is the perfect red lipstick is an understatement. As I’m a committed MAC girl, I didn’t think I’d love it as much as I do. In fact, I think I may love it more than both Ruby Woo and Russian Red. *Cue collective gasp from the blogosphere*

YSL Rouge Pur Couture No 14 is a beautiful red with blue undertones, which is ideal for pale girls like me. It looks a little darker in the bullet but when applied gives a gorgeous deep, red pout. It applies like butter, and is rich, creamy and so comfortable to wear. I tend to suffer from dry, cracked lips but this was lovely and moisturising. The lippie also gives great long-lasting colour, wears well (as in it doesn’t clump in a lipstick scum on the lips) and leaves behind the perfect cherry stain.

Do I even have to mention the packaging? As you’d expect from YSL, it’s stunning. After you’re done admiring the gold bullet, the chic lid also doubles as an emergency mirror for red-stained teeth. Result!

For my make-up in the gallery, I used:
Bourjois CC Cream in Light Beige
Catrice Matte Mousse Foundation in Light Beige
Charlotte Tilbury Transculent Airbrush Powder
Revlon Powder Blush in Haute Pink
YSL Volume Effect Mascara

Have you tried the YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks? Do you go around channelling celebs?! Go on, it can’t just be me..
