The luxury compact

by ,

Sometimes I think life would be better a little blurred and softly lit. Imagine how good we’d all look ever so slightly out of focus? Real life, however, is rarely forgiving of our flaws which is where a great product steps in. Enter YSL Touche Eclat Blur Perfector stage left.

After lusting after this for months, I picked it up on a random Tuesday afternoon splurge (oops). As you do. It’s undoubtedly a thing of beauty and you’ll be bored stupid looking at again and again on my Instagram feed.

Aside from its stunning pink and gold good looks, it’s a strange product. Marketed as a ‘balm-powder’, it calls itself a ‘transparent foundation’. Essentially it’s a primer in compact form. The balm itself is translucent and has a silky soft finish to it. It’s a mixture of solid oil and silicone which evaporates when applied to give a powdered finish to the skin.

The balm can be used as a primer before make-up or for touch-ups during the day (the compact comes with its own beautiful sponge and black velvet pouch). I usually apply mine with a flat foundation brush in place of a primer before applying my foundation.

As regular readers will know, my oily T-zone has more grease than Kim Kardashian’s slicked-up butt in that photoshoot. In other words, products seriously have their work cut out for them. In fairness to YSL, I’d say I get a good two to three hours out of it before a top-up is required. Those with dryer skin types will undoubtedly get longer out of it.

Realistically, it’s probably no better than my beloved Smashbox primer or The Body Shop Skin Boost. If you’re on the fence about purchasing this, there are a myriad of cheaper primer options out there. However, if you’re looking for a little luxury when topping up your make-up, this is a beaut. Me lovey.
