A pair of NYX Matte lipsticks

by ,

It’s that age-old conundrum that has puzzled the greatest minds of our time – just how many lipsticks does one girl need? Turns out, the answer is A LOT.

Like most beauty obsessives, I have more lipsticks than I know what to do with but that didn’t stop me chucking a couple more into my basket on a recent splurge. The impulse purchases in question? NYX Matte lipsticks.

I’ve been searching for a NYX stockist for a few months now and as it turns out, the pharmacy up the road from my office stocks the brand. This can only mean further trouble for my already troubled finances! Having said that, these little beauties only set me back €6.95 a pop.

I picked two shades from the line, the bright Rose Pink and the more subdued Rose Pale. Despite the unimpressive packaging, I found the lipsticks themselves surprisingly creamy for mattes and very pigmented. As with all mattes, I make sure to prep my lips before hand by gently exfoliating with a baby toothbrush and applying a lip balm. I’d also line my lips to stop any bleeding. Rimmel lip liners are my favourite as they are so cheap and cheerful.

The shocking pink is pretty in-your-face but I personally love a bright lip (see the gallery photos above). I wore it for a meal out with Mr TBI and I only had to touch-up the colour once, which is a definite result. The pale pink is sadly not the nude colour I thought it was going to be. I found it too Barbie doll-esque. Again it’s creamy, pigmented and comfortable but it won’t be a shade I’ll be wearing.

Overall, I think the lipsticks are surprisingly great quality for less than a tenner and will definitely be checking out the rest of the NYX range.
