Urban Decay Naked Smoky Eyeshadow palette

by ,

After holding out for years, I’ve have finally lost my Naked virginity. To be honest, I’m not sure what I was waiting for – the new Urban Decay eyeshadow palette is completely drool-worthy.

In case you’ve missed the hype (read: mania), the latest Naked palette contains 12 essential mattes, satins and shimmers in classic smoky neutrals. With sturdy plastic packaging, the palette comes with a handy dual-ended brush (see gallery) and a booklet on how to create a few smoky looks. Of course, I found the booklet after I’d already dived in but no matter.

As this is my first Naked palette, I can only comment on this one. However, there are mixed reports about Naked Smoky’s performance compared to its predecessors with complaints of fallout and dry, patchy shadows. Admittedly, the shadows are a little on the powdery side and you have to press the shade onto the lid for a decent colour payoff. To overcome all of this, I primed my lids beforehand using a little foundation and applied my under eye concealer after I’d finished.

For my look in the gallery, I used a flat MAC 242 brush to press the silver Armour onto the lid. Then with a Zoeva 231 brush, I worked the deep plum Smolder into the crease before buffing out with my beloved Laura Mercier Ponytail eye brush. Finally, I worked a little charcoal Dagger into the outer corners of the crease and under the lash line. I finished the look with MAC half lashes and some Wet n Wild Max Volume mascara.

In terms of longevity, I found this look didn’t crease (remember I primed my lids first) and even lasted the pace of my hour-long power walk (complete with odd looks from strangers). Despite the palette’s cool tones, I loved this look and would wear it on a night out.

Overall, I think the Naked Smoky palette is well worth the hype and if you can get on the waiting list (you madsers!), it’s great value for €46.

What I’m wearing in the gallery:
- Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation in Beige Ivory
- Catrice Liquid Camouflage Concealer in Light Beige
- Smashbox BB Cream Concealer in Light Beige (along the brow bone)
- Elizabeth Arden Eyebrow shadow
- Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Powder in Fair
- Rimmel Natural Bronze
- MAC half lashes
- Wet n Wild Max Volume Mascara
- Rimmel lip liner in Addiction
- MAC Cremesheen Glass in Softly Lit
