Trust the Italians to master the art of love and booze. This Valentine’s I’m taking my cue from our continental cousins and will be experimenting with that classic Italian aperitif Campari.
Famous for its bitter flavour and racy adverts, Campari is a mix of herbs and fruit (including chinotto and cascarilla) and is characterised by its dark red colour – so perfect for a love cocktail.
Today’s Valentine-inspired recipe is actually a take on the classic Jasmine cocktail, invented by Californian mixologist Paul Harrington in the mid-Nineties. I hope you’ll give it a go and enjoy it as much as I do.
1 1/2 ounces of gin
3/4 ounces freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 ounce Campari
1/4 ounce Cointreau
- Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker, fill with ice and shake well.
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
- Garnish with an orange segment.
- Serve and enjoy.
Happy Valentine’s Week everyone!
