Vacuum firm Dyson has re-invented the hair dryer – and I for one couldn’t be more excited. I got to try it out for myself last week at the Dylan Bradshaw salon in Dublin and needless-to-say, I was blown away (sorry!).
According to the boffins at Dyson, they set out to rethink the humble hair dryer after realising that traditional dryers are often heavy, bulky and blast air at high temperatures, causing extreme heat damage to hair. And so, after a €50 million investment, four years of work, 600 prototypes and 1,010 miles of human hair used in the testing, the Dyson Supersonic was born.
Using a fast but focused airflow, the Dyson Supersonic is engineered for balance in the hand and intelligently controls the temperature to help protect hair from extreme damage.
With four heat settings, three airflow settings and a cold shot, the Dyson also comes with three magnetically attached nozzles for different hairstyles that allows for precise drying and styling at the same time.
But at a pricey €399, it’s a serious investment in haircare. So is it worth it? In the interest of ‘science’ (or so I told the financially squeezed Mr TBI), I had a chance to try out a demo model for myself.
As my hair is naturally frizzy, I was most impressed with the smoothing nozzle and constant cool shot for super straight hair. One of its standout features is its super quiet motor – perfect for those 6am blow dries without waking your other half.
The dryer is also light, fast and will cut your drying time in half. My hair was completely dry in five minutes and I didn’t have to use my straighteners afterwards – the first time in a decade!
And the verdict? Every frizzy-haired sufferer needs a Dyson Supersonic in their life. Just don’t tell your bank manager or the hubby…
The Dyson Supersonic will be available to buy in Arnotts, Dublin from June 16th.
