My favourite podcasts

by ,

I’m utterly obsessed with podcasts. As I rarely watch TV anymore, I listen to about three or four episodes a day usually during my workout, my commute or just when I’m pottering around the house. Often insightful, witty and informative, here are a few of my current faves for my daily dose of inspiration.

The High Low
I adore The High Low. Co-hosted by posh London duo Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes, it’s a weekly round-up of everything zeitgeist-y. Both former Sunday Times Style writers (the Sunday papers haven’t been the same since they left), the two pals discuss the best of the week’s popular culture in lovely plummy British accents. Okay, so I may be slightly obsessed with their accents but it really is a fun podcast. Check the girls out here.

The Model Health Show Podcast
A good friend of mine introduced me to The Model Health Show Podcast – and I can safely say it’s changed my life. Health and nutrition expert Shawn Stevenson, along with his bubbly co-host Jade Harrell, break down every health and nutrition fad out there and give you the facts. Since tuning in and taking on some of Shawn’s advice, I’ve lost a few pounds, am sleeping better and have more energy (not to sound too infomercial about it!) Life. Changing. Check out Shawn and Jade here.

Literary Friction
Sometimes you just need a little high-brow nourishment for the brain and Literary Friction is my current obsession. Hosted by Carrie Plitt and Octavia Bright, the podcast delves into the latest book releases with often witty and thought-provoking interviews with the authors themselves. Perfect Sunday afternoon listening. Check out Literary Friction here.

Desert Island Discs
What can I say about Desert Island Discs that hasn’t already been said? It’s a classic. Current presenter Kirsty Young introduces famous “castaways” from all walks of life who share their musical memories they’d take to a desert island. Kirsty’s gentle Scottish accent disarms guests, who usually end up revealing more than they cared too (listen to the Tom Hanks or Kylie Minogue interviews). The archive goes all the way back but I’m currently listening to everything post-2005. Brilliant. Check out Desert Island Discs here.

The Minimalists
I first discovered The Minimalists through the Netflix documentary of the same name. Former executives, Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus quit their jobs and downsized their lives in 2010 and have been documenting their journeys ever since. For anyone on a mission to de-clutter and de-stress their life and enjoy the simpler pleasures, then this podcast (and the documentary) is for you. Check out the lads here.
