You might not know it to look at me but I’m one of life’s worriers. If there’s a world tragedy, terror attack or pointless Trump tweet to fret over (too many to mention!), I’m the one doing it.
The truth is if I didn’t have to leave my house, I probably wouldn’t. As an introvert forced to live in an extrovert’s world, however, I realised pretty early on in life that I had to become an expert in personal appearances. Simply being my quiet self was never going to cut it, especially working as I do as a journalist.
So over the years I’ve developed ways to cope with being out in the world, namely through eating well, taking regular exercise, meditation and practising tapping or EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), which perhaps I’ll write about at a later date. I’m also completely obsessed with health and self-improvement podcasts and listen to at least three or four episodes a day.
Podcasts are a wonderful way to access experts (without leaving your house!) and to get one-to-one virtual counselling on any issue. And the best part? They’re free. So when life throws you a curveball (or rains them down on you), here are some of my top health podcasts to help you through those tough days.
Her Rules Radio
I adore Alexandra Jamieson and her inspirational podcast. The author and nutritionist (and co-producer of movie Super Size Me) always offers wise words and support through her witty interviews with experts from the fields of functional medicine and well-being. On days when I’m feeling bummed, I love to dive in and listen to something uplifting.
The Model Health Show
Shawn Stevenson’s awesome podcast was the gateway drug to my obsession with health shows. His practical tips on nutrition and exercise have literally been life-changing (blog post overdue!).
I have a serious crush on the host of Fat-Burning Man, Abel James. The smooth-talking nutrition expert is a musician-turned-health-nut and his interviews are empowering and educational. Love, love, love this one.
Magic Lessons with Elizabeth Gilbert
Author Elizabeth Gilbert penned the bestselling memoir Eat, Love, Pray and has turned her second book Magic Lessons into this beautiful podcast. I love her soothing voice, empowering guests and feel-good topics. A great rainy day listen.
Primal Blueprint Podcast
Podcaster Mark Sisson is my absolute hero. Delving into the world of primal/paleo living, I’m a total convert. This podcast looks at how to incorporate the healthy lifestyles of our ancient ancestors in a modern world. Fantastic.
