Ah Brene Brown – the poster girl for “F**k it! Go live your best life!” There isn’t a book of hers I haven’t devoured or talk of hers I haven’t cried through.

The Texan researcher and storyteller doesn’t just offer meaningless soundbites and platitudes. Every piece of her advice is backed up by extensive studies and research and that’s why we love her.

1. Try to be your authentic self
“Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.”

2. Don’t let your shame hold you back and be careful who you share it with
“Shame is the most powerful, master emotion. It’s the fear that we’re not good enough. If we share our shame story with the wrong person, they can easily become one more piece of flying debris in an already dangerous storm.”

3. Fear can keep you from joy
“Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy — the experiences that make us the most vulnerable.”

4. Perfectionism is the path to disappointment
